Take Action For the MDGs On Campus

Micah Challenge has worked with over 50 campuses across the country to bring awareness and action on global poverty to campus. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • PRAY: Prayer is a powerful tool for change, and is an easy way to engage people on your campus. Use the MDG prayer guide to set up powerful and interactive stations for each of the MDGs. Set up the stations during an existing event, or make an event out of the stations. Download the MDG prayer guide and check out other prayer resources.
  • ADVOCATE: As students one of the most powerful tools you have is your voice! Organize a letter writing table to write letters to elected officials about the MDGs. For more information on what you should write on visit our campaigns page, or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
  • EDUCATE:
    • Show a film with a discussion afterward. Download a social justice movie list for film ideas.
    • Bring a Micah Challenge speaker to your campus to speak about global poverty and inspire action against injustice. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to get a speaker on campus.
    • Organize "ACT FAST against Poverty" event. ACT FAST is a simple idea: ask people to fast for one day in solidarity with the hungry, and as a petition for the church and elected leaders to act fast against extreme poverty before the injustice of poverty claims any more precious lives. Ask participants to donate the cost of one meal, pray about hunger and the MDGs, and sign the ACT FAST pledge urging their elected leaders to act fast against extreme global poverty. Most campus food service companies will also allow students to collect the cost of one meal for each person who participates in the fast and let you donate it to Micah Challenge. Most schools let you do this once a year or once per semester. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Organize a Justice Week

Use the ideas above to organize a week of justice on campus. Many campuses have worked with us to organize a justice week, and each campus does it differently. Contact us, to discuss ideas for organizing a justice week.
